June - Juicing Challenge

2/6/2015

Happy June everyone!

I love this time of year! Not only are we getting into the summer season, but June is also my birthday month!!! (shameless plug I know!!)

So to help us get us beach body ready, we are going to start the month with a juicing challenge!!

Juicing is a great way to cleanse and top up your body with all those vitamins and minerals that can be found in the wealth of fruits and vegetables.

How does it work?

For the first 3, 5 or 7 days, we will be having a juice blend for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Why?  Well this will help to kick start the cleansing process and help to shed a few pounds!  If having your fruit and vegetables all blended up is still leaving you hungry,  help yourself to some whole fruits, a generous raw salad and a handful of unsalted nuts.  Remember, you choose how many days to begin with (3, 5 or 7).

What fruits and vegetables do I blend?

Anything you like!! I always recommend having a balance of fruit and vegetables. They can be fresh, frozen or tinned, but not in syrup! Try to mix up the flavors to keep it interesting.

Can I drink anything else?

Herbal teas and water are allowed in abundance!  Say no to fizzy, alcoholic and other processed and packaged drinks!!

What about store bought juices?

I suppose it depends on what you are buying.  There are a wealth of juice bars out there and if you don't have the time to whip up your own, then that is an option.  However, always read the labels as often alot of the supermarket blends contain preservatives and additional sugars.

Will I get tired?

You may find that your energy levels during the kick start may take a dip,  so avoid participating in any strenuous exercise.  A gentle walk or cycle ride is fine.

How much weight will I lose?

It really depends on what your diet was like prior to the cleanse. You will definitely find that you lose more weight during the kick start, and then an average of 2lbs each week. Remember anything lost too quickly can be put back on just as fast!!

Will I go to the toilet a lot more?

Yes indeed!! The increased fibre will definitely get those bowels moving and also the water content will mean more trips to the loo!

What happens after the kick start days?

Continue to have a juice blend for breakfast and lunch.  You can now introduce a cooked dinner.  However, make sure you are keeping it clean (so no deep fried, high salt/sugar and processed bad boys!!).

What type of machine do I need?

Now I know that there are a range of heavy duty blenders/juicers/nutrition extractors on the market and in our homes, so for the purpose of the next 30 days, I would say go with what you have!!! I have a Nutri ninja and I just love that I get to use up all the fibre from the fruits and veggies that I have blended without any waste.

No matter what machine you have, you can still follow along with the plan, but you may have to do a bit more chopping and add more water to your blend.

I hope I have inspired you to give your body the cleanse that it deserves, so  stock up on some fruit and vegetables and let's get juicing!!!

Drinking organic juice is a really healthy way to live. I, personally, only drink homemade juice. We own a very good juicer and I have been using them ever since we had it. There are a lot of benefits into drinking juice, especially when it comes to your health. I really hope that more people jump onto this ship. I really recommend preparing your own juice. You can have so much fun experimenting with the different fruits that you can jui

Excellent write up. Very useful for any layman. Inverters are are a must in any house as in our country 24x7 power supply is not guaranteed even though we have advanced in so many fields.

I’m on a LFRV diet because my health is not good. I’m overweight. I am loving this diet but would really love a juicer. Currently I make and all fruit smoothie in the morning which is good but you just can’t add vegetables to that without having a weird texture (chunky).

My tip would be to juice the fruits/vegetables you crave. Forget recipes, go with what tastes good and your tastes will change for the better. Case in point: kale.

Buy organic fruit when in season and freeze to use later on in winter. This will save you a lot of money! And it is better for you than buying fruit from S. America in the middle of winter.

I used a juicer before years ago, I hear the new ones are easier to clean so I might go back to it.
