Food Intolerance Testing
Do I have a food intolerance on allergy?
That's a very good question!! An allergic reaction tends to happen quite quickly, with the body’s immune system mistaking the food for an ‘invader’, resulting in a reaction within minutes, but generally within a maximum of two hours. Typically it is primarily the skin, airways and/or the digestive system that are affected so symptoms can range from an itchy raised red rash to vomiting or in the most serious cases anaphylaxis, which can be life threatening. Such allergies are quite rare an affects about 2% of the population.
Food intolerance can take up to 72 hours to appear after eating the trigger food or group of foods. On average people who suffer from food intolerances usually have between 4 and 8 trigger foods. Whilst the symptoms may not be life threatening, they can still have a negative impact on many aspects of daily life. When food and drinks are digested the proteins within them are broken down into smaller fragments for easy absorption into the body. Larger fragments can pass through without breaking down, and sometimes the body also reacts to them as ‘invaders’, attacking them using antibodies called Immunoglobulin (IgG). This can cause inflammation and a wide range of symptoms including abdominal pain, headaches, fatigue, fluid retention, IBS and hyperactivity to name but a few.
Many people suffer for years, having formed a coping mechanism to deal with the symptoms but being unable to enjoy a normal work and home life. Many people don’t realise that there are easy steps to take that could resolve
How will an intolerance test help me?
Perhaps you are experiencing some of these negative symptoms and you couldn't quite identify the source. Well an Intolerance test will help to take the guess work out for you. First of all a few drops of blood are taken using a simple prick blood collection wick system. This quick and simple system is easy to use and the sample can easily be taken in under a minute either at our practice or in the comfort of your own home. The sample is then immediately sent to a laboratory before being tested and analysed for IgG antibody reactions to up to 208 different food and drink ingredients. Your results are then sent back to us, which will form the basis of your recommendations for dietary and nutritional changes. You will be given a comprehensive plan that provides a fast track to an elimination diet, to optimise your health and wellbeing. Inspired By Vu works with Lorisian healthcare laboratory testing services for all of our food intolerance testing. Based in the UK, Lorisian have over 30 years experience and their food-specific IgG method has had more scientific papers published about its performance than any other food intolerance test on the market.
