Milk Review

11/1/2015

Today's post is all about milk (well at least the dairy free kind anyway! ).  Supermarkets are now offering us so much more than just the soya.

The bargain hunter in me always opted for the soya options, which you can always pick up a litre of less than a pound in most supermarkets.  However I know that there are many reading this who have allergies to soya, nuts or are simply looking for a product with the least amount of calories!

So just for you,  I have tried them all! Now taste is very subjective,  so rather than giving you MY favourite option,  I thought I would give you a summary of the key nutrition facts for each type (per 100ml) highlighting calories,  sugars and fat.  I have also included starting retail price per litre(Sorry non UK readers!!).
As there are always offers, my recommendation is to do your research!

NUTRITION FACTS

Unsweetened Soya - 34kcals, 0.1g sugar and 1.9g fat. Price from 59p upwards.

Coconut - 27kcals, 1.6g sugar and 2.0g fat.  Price from £ 1.39 upwards.

Hemp -   39kcals, 1.6g sugar 2.5g fat. Price from £1.19 upwards.

Unsweetened Almond- 14kcals, 0.1g sugar and 1.2g fat. Price from £1 upwards.

Hazelnut - 27kcals,  3.1g sugar and 1.6g fat. Price from £1 upwards.

Oat - 35kcals, 4g sugar and 0.8g fat. Price from £ 1. 25 upwards.

Rice - 47kcals, 4g sugar and 1g fat. From £1.39 upwards.

So what is your favourite dairy free alternative and why?

Happy milk shopping!

Hello!!

I hope you are enjoying the first weekend in 2015? !

Last night I enjoyed a delicious Vegan Burrito at Cafe Sol in Clapham.   Now I love me some Mexican food and I was pleased with the fact that there were several vegetarian options that I could veganize!!

I settled with a delicious Vegan Burrito!  As you can see from the picture,  this was a huge amount and thus my YOLO meal for the week (and no I didn't have a starter on dessert!)!!

The burrito was a gorgeous blend of vegetables in a tomato chill sauce. I have to say that I can see why they team this dish traditionally with cheese and sour cream, as my tongue was on fire!  (might have to bring my vegan blends next time! !)

They also do a great selection of cocktails,  so they get an Inspired by Vu thumbs up from me!!

Happy Weekend Folks x

Healthy New Year!!

Happy 2015!!!

I always love the beginning of a new year, as we all feel inspired to get rid of old habits or maybe taking up some good ones. BUT sometimes we set the bar so high that it is no wonder why over 80% of us fail!!  So why do we do it to ourselves??

The best laid plains (...or not as the case is!!)

I can remember some of my planned "resolutions" or promises I made to myself which didn't quite make the achievement board!!  You know the classics;  losing a stone in a week (and trying to keep it off), jogging 10 miles a day when you work 100 hours a week!!  It just doesn't work!!

 Be SMART!

Before you set yourself a resolution, ask yourself why?  Don't just do it because that's what people do in January!  We only have one life to live and it's time to start living our lives on purpose with a purpose!  If there is anything you want to achieve, then set yourself a plan of action to get you to where you want to be.   So think about the following..

Specific:  Make your goal clear.  Write it on a post-it note and put it up somewhere where you can see it.  Sometimes writing things out is the first step to making it real.

Measurable: Ask yourself, how will you know that you have completed your goal?  A smaller dress size, increased fitness, healthier eating habits.

Achievable:  This really is saying don't set the bar too high that it will end up falling on you!!  Painful but true.  You know what you are like, so if setting several easier goals is going to help, then great.  But if you need a bit of a stretch (not a pole vault stretch!!!), then make it challenging.

Relevant: This isn't for mum, dad, hubby, babies... its all about you!  There are moments when we have to be selfish and think about why we want this goal

Time:  Set yourself a timeframe.  You can mark your calendar or set regular reminders on your phone.  If you know that you have to have regular fit-tests or weigh in's, you are more likely to be more disciplines because you want to get the results you have put the hard work in for.

I am looking forward to seeing you achieve in 2015!!

Happy New Year!
