Growing up, drinking hot water with lemon and ginger was always in the mix of one of my mums remedies to treat a sore throat. But more recently, this citrus and zingy cocktail helped to relieve my recent bout of bloating following a couple of days sampling baked croissants and bread at meetings.
Cramps and bloating are never welcomed, especially when it becomes debilitating and makes you feel like you have put 10lbs on overnight! I have struggled with constipation and bloating for years and eliminating certain wheat based foods definitely eased the symptoms. It's hard enough being vegan, but to add IBS and wheat/gluten sensitivity was just tipping me over the edge.
Perhaps I was dehydrated? So I committed 24hrs to get as hydrated as possible. But it wasn't enough. I was too scared to eat all day that I felt like I need to add something to give my glasses of hot water a little kick. Then I remembered the classic ingredients: Ginger, Lemon and Peppermint.
Ginger: Ginger is a great stem that has been used in the treatment of indigestion for many years
Lemon: This vitamin C powerhouse is great for strengthening the immune system and cleansing the stomach!
Peppermint: Perfect for relieving IBS symptoms and colonic muscle spasms
So pop the kettle on and add slice of lemon, ginger and a sprig of peppermint and say bye bye to that bloated belly.
