So what do BTSB's look like?
People: It's no secret that people can be potential barriers to you completing your challenge. I remember when I first embarked on the vegan lifestyle, I was met by much resistance from people who would make comments like 'oh you eat rabbit food', 'you NEED to eat meat for protein'!
Negativity: People often bring negativity! Some unintentionally, as their questions often come from a place of lack of knowledge. However negativity brings discouragement
and can derail us from staying focused.
Our excuses: Let's not just blame the external bullies, as a lot of the negativity can come from within! We can all find an excuse for not going for that run, resisting the late night snack etc. However, excuses are well planned lies, so let's replace those excuses with solutions!
Old habits : There is a saying that old habits die hard and it is so true!! So it may take a while to really get going with making changes, after all, if change was easy, we'd all be perfect!
How should we respond to BTSB'S?
Keep your eyes on the prize!: As cheesy as it sounds, we need to remind ourselves of what our goal is. The more we embrace the barriers, the further it takes us away from the finish line. So stay focused!
Your passion isn't always someone else's fashion: The quicker we take this on board, the more we begin to guard our hearts. Believe me I have learnt my lesson and wait for people to ask me rather than preaching an unwanted sermon!
Less is more: You don't have to tell everyone that you are trying to lose weight or get fitter!! There are many people who have tried, failed and are keen to project their failures on you if you give them the opportunity to!
Don't attack!: I know how tempting it is to really have a go at the nay-sayers (believe me I have been there), but use that energy to fuel your desire to complete your challenge and let your results speak louder than your words.
I hope you are feeling more inspired to continuing on with your Back to School Challenge? Please share in the comments box the things you do to stay focused.
