I am a huge fan of high intensity interval training (HIIT) and most of my fitness challenges are based on this model. However, for the past year, I have been signed off from lifting weights and doing any wrist bearing exercises due to inflammation of my wrist and thumb joints in both hands. Now some would use this as an excuse to take a break from working out, but I decided to mix things up and embrace LIIT workouts!
What is a LIIT Workout?
Well LIIT workouts are low intensity interval workouts, so these workouts allow you to slow things down and really take time to loosen those knots and increase the range of motion of our muscles without pounding so hard! Take the classic burpee move. Rather than jumping down into a plank etc, the LIIT approach to a burpee would be to break down each of the phases of the burpee and concentrate on form and increasing oxygen to the muscles involved in the exercise.
So this weeks fitness challenge is LIIT inspired and you can do all of these moves from the comfort of your bed!! It is by no means a "lazy persons workout", as each move focuses on waking each of the muscles in our bodies so we can start our day strong, as opposed to feeling like the tin man. As you can see from the poster, there are 10 moves. Now ideally you want to hold each move for 1 minute each and then repeat on the other side (so making it a 20min LIIT workout). But, if you really are pushed for time, just hold for 30 seconds on both sides instead. I would love to know how you are getting on, so please do keep me posted.
Don't forget to check out my bitesized killer abs video! It features 10 different ab exercises, so once you know what they are, take your time and execute them the LIIT way!
